The Mars Volta have introduced the discharge of their first album since 2012’s Noctourniquet. The new, self-titled assortment shall be launched on September sixteenth.

The band additionally launched a video for Vigil, the third single from the album. Vigil follows within the footsteps of final month’s Graveyard Love and June’s Blacklight Shine.

An announcement accompanying the information of the album’s launch stated: “The new album shakes up some of the band’s longstanding catchphrases, with only two tracks longer than four minutes and lacking the dizzying, aggressive prog style of previous albums .

“The Mars Volta pulsates with refined brilliance, Caribbean rhythms underpin refined, turbulent songcraft. This is guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala at their most mature, succinct and concentrated. Their sound and anger channeled to most impact.”

The Mars Volta is available for pre-order on CD and vinyl (opens in new tab)featuring a “kinetic version” with an embossed, gold-foiled outer sleeve available from the Clouds Hill website (opens in new tab). The digital editions will be available in Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. A number of bundles are also available, some of which include a “Volta Cube”.
